“I get by with a little help from my friends.”---Ringo Starr

Sometimes you need a little help with the point spread, and we have a solution for you. You can buy half-points at a cost of .10 on all point spreads (except 3 or 7) and totals. Hence, if you want to upgrade your favorite team’s betting line from -5 to -4.5, you would bet at a rate of -118 instead of our usual -108 betting line. That means, you would have to bet $118 to place a bet at a point spread of -4.5. To move the line further to -4, you would pay an additional .10 or -128 ($128 to win $100). Your odds increase in increments of .10 for each half-point you want to acquire. The same goes for underdogs. To increase your betting line from +5 to +5.5, you would bet at a rate of -118, or $118 to win $100.

Point spread number of 3 and 7 are considered “key numbers.” The cost to move off the key number of 3 is .30 (10 cents plus a 20-cent premium). Thus, to reduce a point spread from -3 to -2.5, you would have to pay -108 + 30, or $138 to win $100. To continue and move the point spread down to -2, the cost would revert back to an additional .10, so you would have to place the bet at -148 odds, or $148 to win $100.

To move off the key number of 7, the cost is .25 (10 cents plus a 15-cent premium). Thus, to reduce the point spread from -7 to -6.5, you would have to pay -108 + 25, or $133 to win $100. To continue and move the point spread down to -6, the cost would revert back to an additional .10, so you would have to place the bet at -143 odds, or $143 to win $100.
